Boosting our immune systems has never had the demand as it does now! We’re a society that must care for this vessel we call our body before it’s too late. With Covid and its variants on the rise and the anonymity of not knowing who will have lasting effects to their health’s detriment or the ultimate lasting effect, we must find ways to naturally improve our immune system.
Here are 3 foods that will boost your immune response:
1. Add Ginger To Your Diet
Ginger should be a staple in every one’s kitchen. Personally ginger as well as garlic are bases for 98% of my cooking. I blend the two, add some herbs like thyme, rosemary, cilantro and store in the refrigerator for the week’s cooking.
Ginger contains gingerol which is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. That being said, ginger can help combat free radicals pivotal for a healthy immune system.
According to Healthline, Respiratory Syncytial Virus can affect people of all ages and can lead to damage of the lung. Using ginger in your diet can fight against respiratory viruses.
How To Use Ginger
You can make ginger tea, add thinly sliced ginger to salads and to your cooking.
2. Garlic Is The New Butter
Whenever I think of garlic, I think of soft, buttery roasted garlic that can be spread on toast. It’s pure euphoria! For decades my people, Indians, have been known to overindulge in garlic and the only negative being one’s breath.
It’s known to treat colds, ear infections and even keep vampires at bay! WebMD notes that one clove of garlic can prevent infection, kill parasites and effectively eliminate bacteria.
From my experience, you can infuse your oil with garlic and use it to harness powerful antibiotic properties.
How To Use Garlic
Incorporate garlic into your broths, soups and recipes. Raw garlic is best so crush and infuse garlic into your whole grain recipes or age your garlic in healthy oils.
3. Consume Fermented Foods
Fermented foods are packed with probiotics that are excellent for gut health. Healthline contends with fermented foods stating, ” [These foods] contain a flourishing network of gut bacteria that can help your immune cells differentiate between normal, healthy cells and harmful foreign invaders.”
Some must-eat fermented foods that are packed with health benefits are sauerkraut, kefir, yogurt, pickled bitter melon and kimchi. You can make some at home and you can find some of these at your local grocery or Whole Foods store.
Good habits compounded over time leave a lasting effect to our immune system and quality of life. What is life without health? Unfathomable!
