Créme Brûlée has been one of my all time favorite desserts. The decadence is unmatched. The smooth texture, the top layer of caramelized sugar and the sweetness of strawberries along with coolness of mint leaves, all add to an exotic depth of flavor.
Contrary to my initial intimidation, créme brûlée is easy to prepare. It’s very similar to preparing custard. There’s the usual eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla extract.
It differs slightly in preparation and in the final step of caramelizing the sugar. Chances are, you have everything you need in your pantry and fridge to prepare your mouthwatering créme brûlée today!
Ingredients
- 4 cups heavy cream
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. Almond extract
- 6 egg yolks
- 1 cup sugar (half for mixture, half for crust)
How to Brûlée
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Step 1
Bring the heavy cream and vanilla to high heat but not to boil.
Step 2
Whisk the yolks and half sugar until combined in a mixing bowl. Slowly add the hot crème while constantly mixing.
Step 3
Bake for 45-50 mins. Bring to room temp once baked, then refrigerate for at least 2/3 hours.
Step 4
Set your oven to broil. Spread a thick layer of sugar on top of the crème brûlée & broil for 3-4 minutes with the oven door slightly open. Let it cool a bit.
