Rug buying has its perks. Design and style is where it ends. A woman could spend gobs of time figuring out the correct style; whether geometric, abstract or otherwise. Color palettes have such eye catching variations that this can also fill a spot in my calendar!

How to find the right rug size and shape

Consider how constantly moving furniture will impact rug buckle and comfort. A dining room, for example will need the rug to be sized for dining chairs being pulled out.

One good tip is practice sitting and push the chair back to where it’s comfortable enough for an exit to be made.

That comfortable place is where your rug should extend to so as to avoid the legs of your chairs getting caught on the rug or worse, your guests struggling to push the chairs in easily.

And remember accidents can occur if the legs are not placed on a flat surface. Also, remember to account for the dining table extension leaf.

Additional Must Know Tips:

Runners are the best choice for hallways. Very little furniture should be in the space and definitely no obstruction of furniture legs on the runner.

Runners are also a great fit for kitchens and bathrooms and can lengthen a space if placed appropriately and can protect floors.

My home is contemporary by design and I’m currently searching for a rug for my dining room area. These are the main points I considered in my hunt for a rug size and orientation.

This was more difficult than it appeared to be because while my dining table is rectangular, the space isn’t entirely that shape.

I’ve found a geometric rug I fell in love with and I’ll be purchasing a 9’x12′. Hopefully this suffices and I gain the look I desire.

I’ll be sure to share the outcome of my design.
