Every year the holidays stop us in our tracks. If you’re like me, you have a big family. Holiday planning and events can take up a huge chunk of your time and set you back.
It’s crucial to spend quality time and appreciate the blessings of family, but if you have momentous end of year and new year goals, then you may want to reconsider.
Reconsider pouring countless hours into fixing, planning, prepping, cooking, unpacking decorations, watching endless Hallmark movies (but aren’t those the best?) and the list is endless… If you’re enjoying doing these holiday events then more power to you.
However, if this is the year to focus a bit more and end on a high note in your endeavors or aspirations, then this post is for you!
Here are a few ideas on how you can stay the course during the holidays and beyond:
Failing To Plan IS Planning To Fail
Remember what brought you to December 2021? It was December 2020. It was your big hairy audacious goals that you shouted from the invisible figurative rooftops and declared your commitment to…Stick to your plan and if this year didn’t go according to plan, that’s ok too.
If the plan is in place and working, there’s nothing to fix. But if you need to get a head start on end of year or new year progress, hit the pavement running.
Take some time to create a time map and blueprint that you’ll follow until the end of 2021 and into 2022.
Mind Your Commitments
Whatever you choose to commit to has a tendency of occupying your calendar, time and focus. You don’t have to make an appearance everywhere you’re invited.
You just have to choose a few choice events to attend and enjoy. Remember to be fully present where ever you give your time.
Avoid/Eliminate/Eradicate Distractions
I know, I know…this is a tremendous feat in the world we live currently and it certainly isn’t possible. Instead, learn to manage your distractions. Develop the habit of doing what needs to be done in spite of distractions.
Distractions will happen, especially when you have goals. So it’s pivotal you throw your distractions a plot twist and focus on what must be done.
The caveat being you never berate yourself when you don’t follow through and/or aren’t able to superintend those distractions. After all, we are only human.
Feed Your Passion(s)
We give power to so many things in life and often the results are time and effort lost. Feed the power that drives your passion, step in the direction of your dreams.
Take that course, go back to school, write that book, start that YouTube channel, open that business. In simpler words, you know what you must do, just do it!
This may mean that you wake up earlier, you commit more. It will definitely mean that you give up something!
The compounded effect of this loyalty to your passion(s) will lead to the eventuality of your harvest.
Forge Forward
The only way is ahead. We can’t redo our past for it’s already gone. We can nonetheless, make a better present and future! These past few years have put the majority of the world behind and in many ways we’ve advanced.
Some may even say broken through the rut we complained about; the lack of time and endless tiredness that encompassed the very fabric of our lives.
We may have been denied socializing and networking with potential clients, yet we’ve formed lifelong bonds and better relationships with our loved ones.
Forge forward, come what may and rise above. You’re made to shine bright and leave your mark here. To hold your own and proudly declare your inventions.
Whether the things you create are an actual invention, art, some form of altruism or words strung together to tell a story or teach a lesson, let forward be the direction you move towards.
