For ages Indians have used coconut for many uses; cooking, baking, skincare and haircare. Today, we’re talking about hair vitality. I remember growing up as little girl and having my head soaked with coconut oil. It was a sure way to achieve silky hair, a healthy scalp, less frizz and less split ends.
Studies have shown coconut oil to possess antifungal, antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
Childhood nostalgia reminds me of a time when hair care comprised of only a few products, only a few steps and that alone accomplished the thickest, healthiest hair.
For most of us, our hair is a far cry from childhood, having being subjected to heat, highlights, lowlights, color and harsh chemicals.
There’s hope yet though, here’s one of my best kept secrets;
The Best DIY Coconut Hair Mask Recipe
Ingredients
-3-4 tbsp. raw unfiltered coconut oil
-2 tbsp. raw organic honey
How To Make This DIY Coconut Mask
Melt the coconut oil if needed and add honey. Mix well and section your hair. Apply from your scalp to the tips of your hair. Leave in for 30 minutes to an hour or overnight.
Overnight is better since this hair mask will properly permeate the strands of your hair and scalp. Spread a towel on your pillow if you plan on overnighting your mask. Furthermore, you will need to give your hair a good wash the following day.
If coconut oil residue is left over in hair, it’s not a good look! One tends to look sickly with flat, wet but not wet look, drab hair. Get in there and massage your scalp and wash your hair vigorously to thoroughly wash the oil from your hair.
You can do this mask once a week.
If your hair is as dry as the Sahara or perhaps you are plagued by dandruff, itchy scalp or excessive hair loss, then by all means implement this hair care regimen.
Start DIYing your coconut mask, be consistent and understand that results come after you have invested the time and effort to care for your locks.
