The Covid Pandemic has left moms in an impossible situation. It’s been seven long, exhausting months of intense domestication, crazy hair dos, over eating, frustrated kids and the list is way too long to delve into in a single blog post.

I don’t ever remember cooking as much as I have for these quarantine months. It almost seems like the kids have hired help. The help being me! And sandwiches just don’t cut it. There’s pasta, curries of all sorts, fish and fries, chicken sandwiches, tuna sandwiches, fried rice, baked salmon, veggies, baked sweet potatoes…it’s an endless list!

If you’re a mom like me, then you probably don’t care too much for eating out. I teach the kids to eat clean and healthy and that surely backfired! I’m being facetious, but in all honesty these months have helped me to manage my schedule.

I’ve actually improved my organization and prep routine. I go to my local farmers market just as the doors open (because it’s freshly cleaned and no one is usually there at that time). This helps me to get out of there in about twenty minutes tops!

I started washing, cutting and freezing certain vegetables, like pumpkin, bell peppers, okra, and soup veggies! This simple act has allowed me extra time to cook and quality time to dedicate to my eleven and seven year old sons.

They need me to navigate google classroom, especially my little one and I have to be available no matter what’s on my plate. I work as well and thankfully I work from home. Sadly, not all moms have that option so while it’s been difficult, some moms do have situations where they’ve had to make hard choices because of the pandemic.

I finally visited my hairdresser after all these months and she told me about her situation. She has to be at work because she needs her job to pay the bills and has no help. The only option she has is her mom who unfortunately has underlying conditions. She doesn’t want to put her mom in that position to jeopardize her health.

To make matters worse, her kids were supposed to start school virtually. Her kids are younger than mine and no one’s there to be with them as they venture into the online education world. What exactly does a mom, such as this hard working mom do in this precarious situation?

Moms don’t always have all the answers, we really don’t. WE DO figure things out though and my hope is that the moms who were in dire situations and at their wits end have ironed out the details.

This is the exact moment that I can say with all my heart, “moms deserve an award!” An award for your hard work and tenacity regardless of Covid, sleepless nights, stressful days, your innate ability to find what works in any situation and make it successful!

Continue to make things happen!!! No one can stop the UNSTOPPABLE force of mom!
