Balance and 2020 seem to be enemies. The world was thrown into a routine unheard of…We all experienced varying emotions, frustrations, warped schedules and an unexpected education into online learning (if you’re a parent).

And if you tried to watch television to relax that certainly didn’t help. We were and continue to be inundated with propaganda after propaganda. I’m not here to discuss those theories. We’ll just leave those off this blog completely.

My point is, we’re surrounded by toxicity of an unprecedented level and volume. We need to take small segments of time and dedicate it to attaining balance and a positive mindset.

Here are a few actions in random order that’ll bring you balance:

  • Monitor how much time you’re spending on social

Hootsuite; a social media management company, state in a study they conducted that the average person spends a whopping 6 hours and 42 minutes a day on average.

Most people aren’t inspired when they invest such a huge amount of time on social media. It tends to display the more glamorous parts of our lives and that doesn’t encompass the entirety of it.

You don’t see when a person has a bad day, when they’re no longer on the beach, posing for the illustrious camera and when they’re away from elaborate tik toks.

Social media takes the real out of “real life” and that can be harmful overtime.

  • Go for a nature walk

Let this be the time to connect with nature, undistracted by technology.

I’ve been walking for years! It has done wonders for my health, my mind and my peace.

Find a safe trail or park and get your swift walking on! The evening sky can’t take your breath away if you’re indoors.

  • Take a siesta

Here’s a quick and efficient opportunity to rest and recharge. We don’t need a whole hour! A 10-20 power nap will renew and refresh the mind, especially an overtaxed one.

Dr. Oz talks about the good associated with power naps:

  • Practice deep breathing

Deep breathing has been known to reduce stress, improve overall health and we are no strangers to stress!

This quick 3 minute video shares how to practice deep breathing and why you should:

  • Practice mindful meditation

Meditation doesn’t need to be scheduled in our calendars! I do 5-10 minute meditations that are the best investment in my mental health and balance.

Here’s a meditation video I did this morning. I set my intention for the day and that has made my busy day a productive, mindful one.

The fact is, distractions are innumerable and will never stop. We can find ways of monitoring and coping with imbalances that threaten our health, wellness and mindfulness.

I hope you set aside the time you need to create habits that deter imbalance.
